At the age of 16, Garry was asked to join the Citations who performed and won the Battle of the Bands in Kentville in the late 60's.

In 2008 Hiltz decided to devote more of his time to honing his considerable songwriting talents. Along with Harold Tsistinas, well known sound engineer, the studio on West Street in Halifax was created. As one of their first projects Hiltz collaborated with musicians Paul Eisan, Rob Sanford and David James for the cd "Can't Turn Back".
